This is a nice, hip-hop-esque aesthetic. I dig it

carmel123456 responds:

Thank you

Pretty simple drawing. Anime style lemon. Good proportion on the facial features. Working on cell shading and cross-hatching would seriously improve this piece, since the lemon itself is rather featureless. You could even draw a few simple humps and bumps here and there to accentuate the lemon skin and give it a sort of texture, or show us some light/shadow.

DistractedDuck responds:

Thanks for the review! Yeah, I know it's not that good, but at that point it was just kinda for the lulz, to be honest. I wasn't really sure how to do shading right there, and it was getting a bit late in the day. I might do an improved re-draw one of these days, who knows. But, hey, thanks for stopping by! Means a lot, honestly.

Interesting piece Kind of reminds me of a sock monkey. It'd be nice to see this digitized and colorized, perhaps with a somewhat thinner neck. Proportion is a little weird there. Makes me feel like it either needs some background to distract from it, or ... something.

GeometryDashMau5Kids responds:

Muchas gracias ;), aunque si le pongo distracciones en el fondo de mi dibujo...mmm..no se, pierde la chispa de mi mensaje. Gracias por la critica, eso me inspira a ver mi talento como dibujante :)

I don't think the guy is too big for the horse -- but the horse looks kind of like a white wolf. Fantastic work otherwise!

Kamikaye responds:

Thanks :)

I hate cellphones. Necessary evil. 5/5 because that quote so sums up the state of our culture.

buriedantenna responds:

Thank you five times. It's good to hear it resonated with you :)

Wow, such a huge piece! And very vivid, beautiful colors. My only complaint is the crystals on the dragon's head are a bit murky looking. Some even look blurry. Sharper, cleaner crystals would have made this a 5/5 for me.

Kaolinn responds:

Thank you so much for your words, and yes, I agree. For some reason I thought that smudging them out would be a good idea at the time, but wouldn't do it again if I were to rework the image.

This animation is really cute. Reminds me of working with flash 8. Only reason I didn't rate higher, the Robot Day logo isn't animated very smoothly. Granted, I know, fizzling electricity and sparks are hard to animate and have look pretty.

Butzbo responds:

Thanks ADR!, I agree, with some more perspective on the world of 2d animated effects, there can be so much more going on on an effect like that one. Also, now that you mention it, even if I use a newer version, I still think Flash 8 included most of what I use anyway!

Literally came here just to 5 Leia. SevenSeize gave ya a s/o. But fr, the detail on the fine hairs at the crown of her head is perf.

DrewJohnson responds:

Thank you very much.

This is actually pretty good. I can see what looks like a concrete light source, and the textures are fine. Smudging appears to have worked in your favor here. However it could use just a little more contrast in those shadows on the hat, especially the band and the rim.

DistractedDuck responds:

Yeah, I realized afterward that the shadows weren't great, but I didn't have the amount of professional art supplies then that I do now, so I couldn't really fix it. Currently, I don't actually know where the original is in order to fix it, and I probably wouldn't anyway for fear of screwing it up further. And, yes, I do use smudging a lot in order to blend the pencil strokes, as I feel that it makes it look slightly more realistic. Thanks for the feedback! -Ducki

Not bad. Looks like you're bearing down on your pencil pretty hard though. Recommend coming at the paper at an angle and working on getting your lines nice and thin, working with contrast rather than borders. A value study will help you there.

The way my instructor put it to me, people don't have edges, so why draw edged people? There's cartoon aesthetic, but if you're drawing tons of strands of hair and shadows, is that really what we're going for?

I also see a lot of smudge work. This is okay in plenty of contexts (although my teacher hated it), but on a low contrast piece, it kind of just looks old/dirty.

DistractedDuck responds:

Yeah, this isn't really my best. Nowadays, I'm starting to sketch lightly just to give myself a border, and then just draw and erase the border lines. Thanks for the feedback!
