Fruits of Boredom

So, I've been playing with gimp a lot more lately, trying to learn to paint like I used to. Keep ending up with psychedelic stuff like this. Here we see coy guy A exhibiting sexy-eyes. The funky light and shadow I achieved by using the divide effect on a gaussian blurred, color curved image of flowers from my yard under the top layer after merging all the layers. I've been painting on this scrawny bastard for more hours than I can count. The only way I could get him to look right was to try equal parts smudging my lines and the stomp-brush looking brush in the palette. That left a dirty look so I tried sharpening, unsharp masks, and all sorts of stuff, and the burn filter too. The eyes I took a single-pixel brush to.

I was wondering, since NG doesn't really like any elements of photography or too much digital manipulation -- and the lights and shadow overlay is quite obviously a (very mangled, absolutely destroyed) photograph, should I or should I not submit this to the portal?

It's a good point, you'd have to hail an art mod. If you had shot the subject matter yourself, might be a lot more legit. I've got music (and art) I cobbled together for my old TV show, and I don't feel like it's something I could submit to the audio portal for the same reason :/

GIMP's great, if you can get a hang of the layer system they use.. still not sure I'm there yet |:

Finally got settled in back home and played Fallout 4. Don't like the subsistence farming, cooking and other shit |: that's what real life's for! Then there's this simcity-build your own town kinda shit... I just wanna shoot things and meet people! Maybe as the game progresses.... looks good though, got the graphics turned up to 8.5/10 and it's like shit through a goose.

I dunno, I don't really like the farming aspect, but you can build some pretty great shit, and it's a far cry from having to pay caps to add amenities to my home in FO3, which was annoying as hell and always cost a crap ton of money. Plus, being able to build made me feel more as if I were actually in my own home. I just hate the damn cows that run around and sometimes find their way into my house, knocking shit over. I want to kill them but I don't know if that will make my own settlement hostile, lol.

GIMP's layer system isn't too hard to figure out as long as you remember what is on what layer. I usually collapse a layer down when I think I'm done with it to keep things simple.

About your art and music, you could always post it to your newsfeed. I think you can submit art without putting it in the portal as well. Interesting. I don't know. I may have to ask a mod the rules on that. They are very, very grey area. I haven't been scouted to this date I don't think.
