325 kb Snare Instrument - That 70's Sh!t

Posted by ADR3-N - May 21st, 2022

After my last experiment importing MuseScore drumline instruments into Sforzando (how to), I got bored and made a tiny snare -- little, crunchy, and most importantly not a machine gun. Can anybody test it for me?

I enjoyed doing this so much, I'd like to do some more expansive projects, but I want to iron out the kinks of sharing them in a format that works for everyone before I go through days of making a more expansive kit.

Get it here on Google Drive.

Details on use and installation in the README.

Let me know if you have to do any reconfiguring before popping it into your DAW. If you have ideas for better packing and programming, let me know!

Thanks!

Did a quick test on FL.
All the different velocities are clearly distinguishable, but still, a bit more range would be awesome to get some sweet crescendo rolls. Has the right decay of a 70's style snare, needs a "bigger butt" though ; Some boost on the low-mids would make an even more accurate sound.
The "light" samples work nice as ghosts, a bit less attack (strength?) would make them prefect for it. Check this guy's sound :

Hope this helps to your development.

Will see what I can do. Perhaps if I process some different samples at a lower volume and process them hard enough over top the tail end of the current snare, I might be able to fool the ear into thinking they're the same :P

Thanks for checking it out! To be clear, you didn't have to change any parameters and it worked out of the box?

@ADR3-N
Yes, it worked fine for me as is.
The suggestions were for any possible future improvements ;)

I thought I was the only person that used sforzando

I'm surprised more people don't use it! It's free, simple, and beyond easy to make your own stuff for with SFZed. I'm looking at converting more instruments I have to the format

What's your favorite sfz instrument?

hmm...favorite...I've never really thought of it. I don't use it to its full potential just for a soundfont converter, an old format that was popular in the 90s and 00s if you are unaware. I have 100s of them. It's the only (or first?) free 64-bit plugin that I found that is compatible with later versions of FL Studio.
