People actually ask to be scouted on reviews? Reviews are lousy enough as it is (I see people give submissions 3 stars but then don't explain why on a review), we don't need spam included in that.

Yeah, it's getting more and more common lately. I just caught that guy today checking new audio. Keep on the lookout!

Yeah, that exact same guy who was begging to be scouted earlier today in reviews (having not seen someone do that before, I was *almost* shocked at his sickening level of audacity) sent it to me in a PM. I guess I should be glad he didn't leave it in a review, at least. Anyway, I was just about to contact BrentHeMan about the situation, but fortunately I noticed this post first. Very well written, and nice job getting his uploads removed quickly and efficiently.

I really hope that artists who don't understand the delicate nature of scouting other users read this in its entirety. I've messaged some people and explained it to them before, but man--that gets tedious. New users especially need to understand just how liable they'll be if they decide to scout someone who isn't legit.

It does get tedious saying the same things over and over, and nowhere is it really clearly explained just how much of a risk you're taking by scouting someone. It wasn't much of a widespread issue before GD came about, though. Most of the reason I created this post was just to have something to link people to rather than having to constantly explain the same couple of points. Who knows, maybe people will share this post around for the same reason. Hope so. People need to know. Thinking about dropping this in my sig.

I'm a casual user of this site, so this is news to me. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but would I be right in assuming the same thing goes on in the Art Portal?

Yes, especially the scouting bit. If you scout someone who later steals, you can be penalized, so make sure you only scout legit artists!

thats cool and all, but can you scout me

lol. Scout you for what?

Honestly, there's almost no point to scouting anybody. The more people you scout for the audio portal, the more points of failure you create, and when someone gets unscouted, the person who scouted them loses their scouting privileges and everyone else they ever scouted also become unscouted. There is no reward or incentive to scouting anyone, only a cascade punishment for misjudging them. The scouting system was meant to prevent audio piracy from becoming public and becoming visible to music labels, but the workaround for such a system is obvious to anyone looking to sabotage the site; it wouldn't be until after you scout them that they'd start breaking the rules.

The old system where you had to wait for a mod to approve your account to submit audio was better, if only because responsibility wasn't rested solely on a largely irresponsible userbase.

Art. You're gonna have to unscout me and then scout me again

I'm afraid this is beyond the scope of whatever deification I've been rumored to have undergone in the past few days. That or I'll need a detailed set of instructions since I don't really mess with the art portal much.

Wow, this Geometry Dash shit is really pervasive. I just got two stolen songs removed, that were submitted in 2015.

By the way, since the guy behind Geometry Dash is making money on Steam while using your music without your permission, you may have grounds to sue him for the money he should've been giving you.

Can we really do that? I mean, class action would be the only way for a lot of us to go, but can we? Not that I want to drag a guy through that legal process but I know I'm not alone in specifying that commercial uses be arranged with me prior to my material being used in games/movies.

Dang, crazy. Thanks for the heads up! :)

Any time. Keep an eye out!

Indeed !
I've got some of this scouting beggars reviewing my stuff.
After checking their tracks, turned out they were stolen (except for one case).
I really hope Tom and the NG staff are thinking about a solution to keep all those "GD kids" under control ; Its already a problem, but I think it could turn into a big-ass problem if it continues like this.
I was lurking into the unscouted rock tracks a couple of weeks ago, around 85 % of all the tracks there, were stolen, I spotted 200+ tracks. And that was the rock section alone.
How deep the rabbit hole goes ?

@Psychopath
The 200+ stolen tracks I could identify are still sitting on the audio cleanup thread.
The list starts here :

Most of them are easily identifiable. It's a whistle gold mine for the crew.

@NekoMika have you seen these? Most of them are still sitting untouched.

Goody Goody Gumdrops!

THIS GUY HAS NOT BEEN DEALT WITH:
http://cvinces.newgrounds.com/

Pmed me to get me to scout him... I checked the title and it was the SAME SOUNDTRACK you just mentioned...

i flagged him and put his work in AUDIO PORTAL CLEANUP forum... no one hasn't done anything!

You reading this @Nekomika

He's been taken care of now, looks like.

well just unscout me 2 times in a row and then scout me 3 more times and we'll call it even

That's a lot of hoops to jump through. There you go. Now, break the rules and I'll break your internet connection... probably. I've taken a look at your stuff. Seems genuine :P

lmao fuck i was joking. i didnt think you'd actually do it
thx though

I just wanted to see if you wanted it that badly :P If you'd like a review or two, feel free to ask

If what you say is true then yes, you totally could. Your audio was uploaded before he made the game, so you can prove he downloaded it from here and started making money with your work without your consent.

I would suggest contacting a lawyer. Ask him everything you want to know on the phone before hiring him and filing a lawsuit. If you can get multiple people together to back you up, it'd make your case a lot stronger.

My concern is the commons license we use isn't exactly enforced. Do you think that would be a legal hurdle? Should we start a petition or something, seeing as suing RobTop could be difficult to manage for some people, who may not be able to get in touch with lawyers or have money for fees. I know next to nothing about that side of the legal system, just death, taxes, and general petty crime.

I am starting to seriously think about this petition. Where should I write it?

Hmm.. Well, change.org is the place I hear about most
