haha I have that same audio driver! i thought it was compressing, but saw no option to toggle it in the settings. glad to know my ears weren't playing tricks on me...any idea how to turn it off?

Try to swap your audio driver to the High Definition Audio one already on your PC. Sometimes it takes 2 restarts to get stuff working. I found that solution on the hp forums
Still, freaking ridiculous to have to do that on a new laptop lol
thanks. I actually have that HD Audio on and it still compresses.
I don't have a HP though, so maybe it's different.
I mostly use an external audio interface anyway...but it's still an inconvenience tho
Weird. Try reinstalling it again?
@S3C also super strange but my speakers just shrieked for no reason. Wtf hp, lol
@ADR3-N I just fixed this on mine. Whatever new update you just installed may be the issue. With my DELL, it was a new program Smartbytes in the Apps & features part of the system settings app. I just removed Smartbytes Drivers and Services in Control Panel and it stopped crackling.
It seems to be fixed now. Other than a random shriek earlier. Also seems not to be compressing anymore. Glad you fixed yours too!
Hey you've gotta put in that subscriber thing or I might miss these things. :P Awesome news though. Also @S3C man I hope that brand wasn't actually one of the things that sealed the choice. XD Nortaku as you've claimed to be. Had only heard good things about those guys before this...
Oh I didn't intend this to be huge news. I'm still getting together clips and stuff. Projects are underway though :)
hehe HP i rather old hat dude...ASUS laptops are where it's at. Just kidding. I used an HP for 9 years before what I have now. While the hardware and software issues with it where plentiful, the audio wasn't one of them, fortunately...
LOL I hadn't even thought about that.
Oh, I hate HP, Omen was just fairly affordable and had the best RAM in category. I looked at other PCs and they had worse video cards and would cost more to upgrade with 16GB ram hahaha
I love ASUS, but their model wasn't impressing me, for the price.
*googles* hey HP-Omens ain't cheap...
I just had one of the standard HP laptops.
and you're probably right, the difference between a 500$ and 1000$ laptop is much greater than a 1000$ and 1500$ laptop. I have the latter. Still comparable and cheaper than a top of the line Mac, but the best overall value. I just wanted something to last me another long while in lieu of the exponential rise of computing technology.
thinking (dreaming) about getting a Mac Mini next. Not that I like Apple, but they have an exclusive DAW to their OS that I prefer to the one that I've been using over the past decade.
hmm...I'm gonna create the Omen-Break, patent it, and then become a millionaire after suing underground DnB musicians for sampling it....
I wonder if you could probably just emulate MacOS on a faster PC?
Also, yeah, Omen was not cheap but I also wanted something to last, like you mentioned. This will potentially carry me through all my musical projects, and asssuming I don't ever need to render in 4K, since humans can't even see in 4K, it shouldn't be a huge issue to hold onto it for several years more than my 400 dollar refurbished Lenovo lasted.
Omen Break... lmao. Compress the shit out of the Amen Break and you got yourself a going thang.
S3C
what laptop?
ADR3-N
New HP Omen. I recommend it all but for the crappy Bang & Olufsen driver that auto compresses all your music -- when music is usually already compressed.
